Choosing which paintings to show in addition to ‘Conscia’:
‘Conscia’: Conscious, Aware of, in Latin.
The paintings I choose must provide a coherent pathway in towards Conscia.
must consider the whole show
everything i am showing must work together, to speak coherently, to elevate the whole
outside too- i am using the corridor walls
‘When The Sun and The Moon’: Hung outside c09. It is attached to a wall on the other side of the sculpture court away from the rest of my work but still in the MFA vicinity as a whole
It is far enough away from my other pieces to be perceived as one piece on its own- not in huge relation to or not overly connected to the other works I have installed.
I have spent the last week choosing which additional paintings to hang in the corridor outside studio c05. Initially I made three groups of paintings whose narratives or aesthetic values of composition and colour elevated each other harmoniously. They were:
After having the extra space I can use confirmed as too minimal to hang all 10 chosen paintings I needed to select only the most significant works to show. Whilst thinking I played with these groups as a whole, in one line, in the corridor:
After spending time with the works I culled the group of 10 to 5. The editing process was about looking and absorbing the quality of the processes and strength of narratives and the overall energy within the paintings and then deciding which works showed the most pivotal expressive and learned pieces of painting individually and aesthetically in relation to each other.
SCRUTINY ALOOWED THE GROUP OF FIVE TO BECOME FOUR
AND I PLAYED WITH THEIR ARRANGEMENT IN TERMS OF ALLOWING THE LINE THEY WOULD FORM TO CONDITION AN AUDIENCE BEFORE ENTERING C05 AND SEEING ‘CONSCIA’.
