tHIS YeAR i HAVE BEEN PART OF THE mfa CURATORIAL TEAM, we have had regular meetings together, in and out of conjunction with the mfa ZINE team, exchanging grandeos ideas about staging multiple exhibitions in Edinburgh. We have researched venues, met with gallery owners, sourced possible collaborations with artists and spaces in other Scottish cities and proposed a pinnacle show in an outside public space at some point during the Fringe Festival. These plans however have been sidelined by a collective lack of time and a desire/ importance to progress individually. Some events have been successfully staged in the CO2 RELAY slot on several Wednesdays (role play crits/ CV workshop etc). After a huge effort in applying for a creative arts grant I’m sorry to say our motivation was somewhat stinted by not being awarded any money. Enthusiasm for curating shows and navigating the contemporary world of exhibitions has not been diminished, merely put on hold as there just haven’t been enough moments to fundraise recently. I fully intend to be an integral part of a successful curatorial team next semester. By successful I mean we will propose, stage, organize, hang, and house exhibitions in various venues. The meetings we have had and experiences, knowledge and ideas we (this years curatorial team,) have shared over the last two semesters has been incredibly valuable and my knowledge of curating has pOSiTIVEly grown through discussion.

This year we have been studio reps, all sharing a desire to know what is going into the running and production of our MFA course. A desire to speak and be heard in the flow of decisons and to make sure this is the most productive place and happenings are ultimately helpful. It has been nice to liaise between staff and other students and is something I have enjoyed giving time to: attempting to deciphering and contribute to the crux of this MFA ship.
